It’s always hard to find dad the perfect gift, but it’s even harder when the budget is strained by rising gas prices and a tight economy — and dad doesn’t need another neck tie, golf club, or coffee mug.

Dr. Susan Orenstein is a licensed counseling psychologist who is an expert on Stay Happily Married.com, a resource for married couples who want to stay together sponsored by Rosen Law Firm.

Orenstein shares a few ways to celebrate Father’s Day on a budget:

1) Attend a minor league sports game. Many Dads like sports, but going to see a major league game can be expensive, so opt for the minor leagues.

2) Go for a hike. Many dads like the outdoors and while it may be too expensive to drive to the mountains or the beach, explore state parks close to home.

3) Plant a tree. Just because it’s Father’s Day, doesn’t mean you can’t do something good for Mother Nature. Find a spot in your yard and plant a tree in dad’s honor.

For the second year in a row, Angel was added to the annual Legal Elite list as a top North Carolina family law attorney. Only about three percent of the state’s Bar members won this year’s Legal Elite, which selects top lawyers in 14 different categories.

In addition to serving as chair of the North Carolina Domestic Violence Commission, Angel also served as a member of the Wake County Bar Association Board of Directors and served as chair of a committee to the Council of the Family Law Section of the North Carolina Bar Association. She is past president of the Women’s Center of Wake County Board of Directors and the current Co-Chair of Wake County Family Lawyers.

How does it work? The new program combines artificial intelligence, game theory and an electronic or human external mediator to help divorcing couples settle their disputes in a fair and rational manner. The program helps each couple rate the objects or issues in question, then sorts out who gets which item based on the ratings.

How effective do you think a computer program could be in solving a settlement dispute in a divorce?

Though saying little on why she introduced the bill, Republican Representative Sheryl Albers’ push for new pet laws is said to have surfaced from pet problems arising from her husband’s previous marriage.

Though numerous lawyers claim such problems are rare, is this bill a response to an overlooked issue of divorce or one woman’s response to a personal dilemma?

So my last post referred to a recent article about how the U.S. divorce rate is currently at a 27 year low. I think the big question is why? Some speculate it’s because there are fewer marriages while others say it’s because we are marrying smarter and later.

Also, some research shows that there are now fewer second marriages. Thirty years ago the recently divorced tended to remarry soon after their divorce.

Others, like Bill Coffin, Department of Health and Human Services’ special assistant for marriage education, correlate the low divorce rate to the Bush administration’s Healthy Marriage initiative, which in the last five years has disbursed over $200 million nationwide.

There was a similar issue in Texas where a man wanted to divorce his wife who got a sex change. Same sex marriage is not recognized in Texas so therefore divorce between the same sex is also not possible.

Should a spouse’s sex be based on what they were at the time of the marriage or after?
